The 2018 Saint-Aubin La Princée is showing well, opening in the glass with aromas of citrus zest, white flowers and crisp Anjou pear. Domaine Hubert Lamy is a standard-bearer for the Saint-Aubin appellation in Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune, led by the innovative Olivier Lamy. The estate is celebrated for its commitment to high-density planting and precise, terroir-driven winemaking, producing Chardonnay wines known for their purity and tension. The Saint-Aubin “La Princée” is a key village-level white in the Lamy portfolio, serving as a textbook introduction to the style of the estate and the elegance of Saint-Aubin.

“La Princée” is not a single vineyard but a blend sourced from approximately ten different village parcels across Saint-Aubin, covering about three hectares. These parcels, often located on cool, limestone-rich soils, contribute complexity and mineral depth to the final wine. The Chardonnay is typically aged for an extended period (around 24 months on the lees in 300- and 600-liter barrels, mostly used) followed by further aging in tanks to retain freshness before bottling.

The wine is renowned for its bright, racy character, often exhibiting expressive notes of white peach, citrus zest, green apple, and wet stones. On the palate, it consistently shows lovely tension, crystalline minerality, and a saline edge that reflects its limestone origins.
