Ratings & Tasting Notes:
93 points Vinous
“The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Pine Mountain Vineyards is the raciest and most voluptuous of the wines I tasted. Dark red cherry, plum, smoke, menthol and spices flesh out in a large-scaled, generous wine built on pure texture. In 2012, there is a bit less mountain character and tannin, but in exchange, the wine will drink well pretty much right out of the gate. There is no shortage of vintage 2012 explosiveness and raciness. This fruit was brought in on October 7.”

Cult Wines International Notes:
The 2012 Pine Mountain Vineyards ‘Ampère’ Cabernet Sauvignon is a highly-regarded, mountain-grown expression of Cabernet from the Pine Mountain-Cloverdale Peak AVA, a high-elevation sub-region of Sonoma County. Produced with the input of acclaimed winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown, the ‘Ampère’ label is known for conveying the intense flavor and concentration afforded by the vineyard’s extreme location, which sits between 2,200 and 2,800 feet. The 2012 vintage, celebrated across California for its generous balance and ripeness, resulted in a wine that critics noted for its voluptuous and racy character. Unlike some of the Ampère’s more aggressively tannic mountain vintages, the 2012 was described as being slightly less marked by mountain structure, offering a large-scaled, generous wine built on pure texture that was approachable earlier. Tasting notes often include a mix of dark red cherry, plum, smoke, menthol, and spices, underpinned by classic mountain notes like blueberry, cinnamon, and crushed rock. It is considered a bold, structured Cabernet that maintains a balance of dark fruit intensity and textural elegance, making it an excellent example of high-altitude Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon.
