Incredible iodine, oyster, currants, peat and cedar. Yet subtle. Full body, chewy yet polished tannins and great depth and complexity on the finish. I love the spice and blueberry character on the finish. Vibrant. A sexy style of Mouton. *Top 100 of 2017*

An exciting, beautifully layered wine, the 2014 Mouton Rothschild is one of the clear highlights of the vintage. A stunning interplay of crème de cassis, graphite, menthol, sage, mocha, dark chocolate and leather takes of all the senses. The 2014 is dark, voluptuous racy. Above all else, it speaks to a total sense of balance. (AG)

The label of this vintage is designed by David Hockney in memory of Philippine de Rothschild. It is a powerful wine in the rich style of Mouton with strong black-currant fruits from 81% Cabernet Sauvignon. It is dense and dark, ready to age for many years. *Cellar Selection* (RV)

This delivers a large core of pure, unadorned cassis, accented by notes of anise, plum cake, mint and bitter plum coulis. The core has serious heft, supported easily by a riveting iron spine that shows superb length through the finish. A prodigious display of power and cut. *Collectibles* (JM)
Cult Wines International Notes:
Château Mouton Rothschild is a Premier Cru Classé (First Growth) wine estate located in Pauillac, in the Médoc region of Bordeaux, France. Acquired in by Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild, the estate rose from a highly-regarded Second Growth to its elite status through a century of visionary leadership, becoming synonymous not just with fine wine, but with the fusion of wine and art.
The estate’s modern identity was forged by Baron Philippe de Rothschild, who took charge in . He pioneered two major revolutions in Bordeaux: instituting château bottling in to ensure quality control from barrel to bottle, and, most famously, launching the artist label tradition in . Since then, every vintage has featured a unique label designed by a celebrated contemporary artist, including Picasso, Miró, Dalí, and Chagall, making each bottle a highly collectible cultural artifact.
Mouton Rothschild’s most monumental achievement was its elevation to First Growth status in 1973, the only change ever made to the Bordeaux Official Classification. Baron Philippe achieved this after decades of relentless lobbying, cementing the estate’s motto, “First, I am. Second, I was. Mouton does not change.” The estate’s Grand Vin is primarily based on Cabernet Sauvignon and is celebrated for its power, opulence, and remarkable longevity, often exhibiting intense notes of cassis, cedar, and graphite when young, evolving into complex layers of spice and leather with age.
Beyond Bordeaux, the family also established prominent international collaborations, including Opus One in Napa Valley with Robert Mondavi, and Almaviva in Chile with Concha y Toro, further expanding their global influence. Today, the estate remains under the control of Baron Philippe’s descendants, perpetuating its legacy of excellence, innovation, and artistic flair.
