Ratings & Tasting Notes:

95 points Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

The full-bodied, powerful, pure 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is another outstanding effort revealing notes of spring flowers, toasty oak, creme de cassis, licorice, and graphite. One would have to go back to the 1990, 1991, 2001, or 2002 to find a Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve this impressive. The 2007 should evolve for 20-25 years. 95+ (RP)

Cult Wines International Notes:

Robert Mondavi Winery is a landmark institution in the history of California winemaking, widely credited with elevating Napa Valley to the world-class status it holds today. Founded in 1966 by Robert Mondavi himself, the winery was built on a philosophy of innovation and the relentless pursuit of quality. Mondavi, a visionary who believed in the potential of Napa Valley’s soils, championed techniques such as cold fermentation and the use of French oak barrels, which were revolutionary for California at the time.

The winery is famous for its To Kalon Vineyard, a legendary site in Oakville, which forms the backbone of its flagship wines, including the Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve. Mondavi’s passion for education and collaboration led to a pivotal joint venture with Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild, which resulted in the creation of Opus One, America’s first ultra-premium wine. This collaboration not only produced an iconic wine but also solidified Mondavi’s reputation and that of Napa Valley on the global stage.

Robert Mondavi’s legacy extends beyond his wines; he was a tireless advocate for the entire Napa Valley wine region, promoting its wines and culture worldwide. His winery became a hub for wine tourism and education, helping to shape the modern perception of American wine. Today, the winery continues to be a symbol of quality, innovation, and the pioneering spirit of its founder.
