Ratings & Tasting Notes:

94 points Wine Advocate

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley has a dense opaque purple color, a kiss of blackberry and cassis fruit, a full-bodied mouthfeel with ripe tannin and a long finish. It is very Caymus in its immediate accessibility, but has plenty of staying power and depth. This is lush, full, intense and pure. Drink it over the next 15 or so years. (RP)

Cult Wines International Notes:

Caymus Vineyards is one of the most recognizable and critically acclaimed producers in Napa Valley, famous for its signature style of Cabernet Sauvignon. Founded in by Chuck Wagner and his parents, Caymus (an abbreviation of the title of the original -century land grant) became a pioneering force that helped establish Napa Valley’s global reputation.

Signature Style: Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon is distinctive and celebrated for its rich, ripe, and accessible style. Unlike many traditional Bordeaux-style wines that require decades of aging to soften, Caymus is engineered to be enjoyable upon release. It is known for its plush, concentrated texture and its hallmark profile of sweet cocoa, dark cherry, vanilla, and soft, velvety tannins.

Special Designation (Special Selection): Caymus produces two Cabernet Sauvignons. The flagship bottling is the Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, which is a multi-appellation blend. The ultra-premium bottling, the Special Selection, is sourced from the finest barrels of the vintage. Notably, the Special Selection is the only wine to have been named Wine Spectator’s “Wine of the Year” twice, solidifying its place as a California icon.

Winemaking and Legacy: The winery is famous for its use of “hang time”, allowing the grapes to remain on the vine longer than usual to achieve maximum ripeness and soft tannins. This technique results in a powerful, opulent, and consistent wine profile. Today, the winery is led by Chuck Wagner’s son, Charlie Wagner, continuing the family’s legacy of crafting a rich, hedonistic style of Cabernet that appeals to a broad global audience.
