Ratings & Tasting Notes:
89 points Wine Enthusiast
From a little-known producer outside the Classico zone, here is a pretty wine with notes of cherry, chocolate, spice and subtle shadings of vanilla. In the mouth, it delivers soft tannins and good persistency of spice and fruit flavors.
Cult Wines International Notes:
The 2001 Provolo Amarone della Valpolicella is a well-regarded wine from a vintage known for producing complex and elegant Amarones. This vintage followed a summer with relatively warm and wet conditions, but a warm, dry September and October allowed for excellent grape ripening. Provolo, a smaller producer located outside the traditional “Classico” zone, created a wine that showcases the potential of the region.
The 2001 Provolo is described as a wine that is approachable and food-friendly. Due to its balanced structure and elegant fruit, it pairs well with red meats, especially beef and venison, as well as rich stews and aged cheeses. It is considered a fine example of a mature Amarone that has maintained its freshness and elegance over time.
