An enormously complex and rich wine that almost defies description. Golden apples, raisins and pears; bread, cream, vanilla, honey and nuts. The list goes on and on. Full and rich; the mousse is extremely fine and creamy-textured in the mouth.
95+ points Int’l Wine Cellar
Knockout aromas of lemon, lime, toffee, grilled nuts, nutmeg and minerals; conveys a strong impression of soil character. Great thickness and brightness in the mouth; offers a compelling combination of lemon and orange citricity and complex yeast autolysis notes, and near-perfect harmony of young and maturing elements. This outstanding, elegant Champagne shows an extraordinary creamy richness yet is still rather folded in on itself. Has the sheer structure and grip to develop in bottle for a decade or two. Finishes with great nutty length. (ST) 95+
95 points Wine Spectator
A wonderful, mature Champagne, offering toast, mushroom, honey and citrus aromas and flavors that evolve into a long walnut aftertaste. Its richness is offset by bracing acidity, yet not quite fully integrated. Full-bodied and aristocratic. (BS)
Cult Wines International Notes:
Salon Cuvée ‘S’ Blanc de Blancs Brut is an iconic and highly exclusive Champagne renowned for its purity, rarity, and exceptional longevity. Founded in 1905 by Eugène-Aimé Salon, the house is unique for producing only a single prestige cuvée in only the most exceptional years—resulting in a mere 44 vintages in its over 120-year history. This Champagne is the ultimate expression of singularity, made exclusively from the Chardonnay grape, sourced only from the Grand Cru village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger in the Côte des Blancs. The winemaking process is meticulous, eschewing malolactic fermentation and oak barrels to maintain the wine’s characteristic laser-like acidity and pristine chalky minerality derived from the local terroir. Salon undergoes an extended aging period of around ten years on the lees before release, developing a fine mousse and complex notes of brioche, white flowers, citrus, and often a savory, saline finish. This combination of strict selection, extended maturation, and minimal dosage (Brut) creates a wine that is initially taut and reserved, but capable of profound, decades-long evolution in the cellar, making it a sought-after collector’s item and a benchmark for Blanc de Blancs Champagne.
