Ratings & Tasting Notes:

90 points James Suckling

Plenty of vanillin oak making for a confected, sweetly spiced impression. The palate has a big, sweet nectarine and boysenberry core. Give this another year or two to settle.

Cult Wines International Notes:

Cellier des Princes is a highly respected cooperative winery located in the heart of the southern Rhône Valley, offering an accessible and authentic expression of the prestigious Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. This region is famous for being the first to receive Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) status in France, setting the benchmark for quality winemaking.

The wine is characterized by the region’s signature terroir, marked by large, heat-retaining river stones known as galets roulés. The blend is often dominated by Grenache, supported by other permitted varieties (up to thirteen different grapes are allowed), such as Syrah and Mourvèdre. This complexity in blending is what gives Châteauneuf-du-Pape its unique depth.

Cellier des Princes’ version typically showcases a deep, inky color and a powerful, complex aromatic profile. Expect notes of black cherry, raspberry jam, garrigue (the local mix of wild herbs like thyme and lavender), and licorice, often evolving into savory notes of leather and tobacco with age. The palate is full-bodied, structured, and warm, balanced by powerful, integrated tannins. It is a bold, spicy wine that perfectly embodies the rich, sun-drenched character of the Southern Rhône.
