Yet another masterpiece created by Richard Geoffroy. Unmistakable Dom Pérignon style with unparalleled silkiness throughout the palate. The mousse is worthy of its own chapter and the elegance is striking. Nice minerality and floral notes with citrus overtones. Slightly short now, but time will fill in the small gaps in the beginning of life. This time it tasted intensely toasty and fairly close to the 1983 when I tasted that vintage for the first time at the same age as the 2004 is now. (RJ)

This is very lively and vibrant with a dense and rich center palate. Lots of complexity and balance with pastry, sliced lemon and light dried mango. Full yet racy and intense. A beautiful center palate. Linear. Shows potential for aging but so good right now.

Similar to 2005, 2006 had perfect weather at harvest, following an excellent growing season. The production team at Moet e’ Chandon continue to produce some of the best Champagne in the world. This new bottling of Dom Perignon is no exception. This wine begins with aromas of brioche, porcini mushroom, gala apple and banana. This leads to flavors of red delicious apple, toasted macadamia nut, Meyer lemon rind, and Japanese pear. This is absolutely ethereal as the mousse is silky and incredibly textured. The earthy components to this blending beautifully complement the citrus fruit. An absolutely stunning Champagne that is a very small step ahead of the brilliant 2005. (OB)
Cult Wines International Notes:
The 2006 Dom Pérignon Limited Edition by Michael Riedel represents a convergence of classical winemaking and contemporary German minimalism. Named after the 17th-century Benedictine monk who pioneered many of the techniques that define modern Champagne, Dom Pérignon is exclusively produced as a vintage wine, meaning it is only released in years where the harvest meets the Maison’s exacting standards for harmony and longevity. This specific bottling features the “Power of Creation” collaboration with artist Michael Riedel, who utilized a deconstructed, digital superposition of the initials “D” and “P” to create a “poetic optical metaphor” for the passage of time and the transformation that occurs during the wine’s long maturation on the lees.
The 2006 growing season in Champagne was a “classic” yet demanding vintage characterized by dramatic shifts in weather. The year began with a cold winter and a rainy spring, but June and July brought a historic heatwave that pushed the grapes toward exceptional ripeness. While a damp and gloomy August raised concerns about rot, a return to warm, dry conditions in September saved the harvest, allowing for a long, protracted picking period that achieved perfect phenolic maturity. This 2006 expression is often described as “voluptuous” and “succulent,” striking a stylistic balance between the intense ripeness of 2002 and the vibrant acidity of 2004. On the palate, it delivers a complex array of candied fruit, toasted almond, and licorice, all underpinned by a silky texture and a distinctively briny, mineral finish.
