Cult Wines International Notes:
The Krug ID on this bottle indicates that it is the 19eme edition. Composed around the harvest of 2006, Krug Rosé 19ème Édition is a blend of 37 wines from 5 different years, the youngest from 2006, and the oldest from 2000.
In all, reserve wines from the Maison’s extensive library made up 22% of the final blend of this Édition of Krug Rosé.
The final composition of this Édition of Krug Rosé is 59% Pinot Noir, which includes the 10% traditionally macerated Pinot Noir wines, 33% Chardonnay and 8% Meunier.
Krug Rosé 19ème Édition is a vibrant expression of the House of Krug’s uncompromising philosophy, a legacy established in 1843 by Joseph Krug. Driven by the belief that a great Champagne house should offer the best of both worlds—regardless of annual climate fluctuations—Joseph set out to create Champagnes of undisputed character and distinction. While Krug is world-renowned for its Grande Cuvée, the Rosé was first introduced in the late 1970s as an elegant, broad, and structured addition to the portfolio. Each “Édition” follows the house’s meticulous tradition of blending, involving the individual vinification of numerous plots and the use of a vast library of reserve wines. The 19ème Édition specifically marks the 19th time this non-vintage prestige cuvée has been re-created since its inception, embodying the house’s signature complexity achieved through long cellar aging and the inclusion of a specially selected, skin-macerated Pinot Noir.
The foundation of the 19ème Édition is the 2011 harvest, a year remembered in Champagne for its unconventional and rapid progression. A remarkably warm and dry spring triggered an early flowering, pushing the vegetative cycle ahead of schedule. While the summer months brought more variable weather, the early start allowed the grapes to reach maturity under favorable conditions before the onset of autumn. To achieve the 19ème Édition’s characteristic balance and depth, the Krug winemaking team blended the 2011 fruit with reserve wines from six different years, the oldest dating back to 2000. This assembly, dominated by Pinot Noir and complemented by Chardonnay and Meunier, resulted in a Rosé of remarkable freshness and poise. After spending seven years on the lees, the 19ème Édition emerged as a sophisticated tribute to the house’s art of blending, offering a seamless marriage of wild berry notes, delicate spice, and an enduring, silky texture.
