The Barons de Rothschild Ritz Reserve Brut is the result of a prestigious collaboration between one of the world’s most storied winemaking families and the iconic Ritz Hotel Group. The history of the house, Champagne Barons de Rothschild, is unique in that it represents a rare alliance formed in 2005 between the three distinct branches of the Rothschild family—Château Mouton Rothschild, Château Lafite Rothschild, and Château Clarke. While the family has influenced global viticulture for over 150 years, this venture marked their first collective entry into the Champagne region with a dedicated facility. Based in Reims and operating out of a historic Maison on the Boulevard Lundy, the house focuses on a Chardonnay-led style, sourcing fruit from the most esteemed Grand and Premier Cru vineyards in the Côte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims. The Ritz Reserve (or Ritz Cuvée) was specifically commissioned to serve as the house pour for the Ritz London and other global Ritz-Carlton properties, designed to embody the shared values of elegance, heritage, and uncompromising luxury.
Because the Ritz Reserve Brut is typically a non-vintage (NV) blend, its identity is defined by consistency rather than a single growing season. The house achieves this “timeless” profile by utilizing a high proportion of reserve wines—often exceeding 40% of the final blend—which are drawn from a perpetual solera system started at the winery’s inception. This allows the Chef de Cave to mitigate the annual fluctuations of the harsh Champagne climate, such as the spring frosts and unpredictable rains common in the region. The primary “base” years for these bottlings generally benefit from a steady ripening period characterized by warm, sunny days and cool nights, which are essential for developing the signature Rothschild tension between creamy richness and vibrant acidity. By blending multiple vintages, the winery ensures that the Ritz Reserve maintains its hallmark complexity, regardless of the specific weather challenges faced during any individual harvest.
