Cult Wines International Notes:

Il Borro ‘Borrigiano’ is a distinctive red wine produced by the esteemed Il Borro estate, owned by the Ferragamo family. The estate is located in the lesser-known, yet historically significant, Valdarno di Sopra DOC in Tuscany, situated south of the Chianti Classico zone. Il Borro is celebrated for its commitment to organic farming and sustainable practices, which underpin the quality and purity of their wines.

The Valdarno di Sopra DOC is one of Tuscany’s oldest recognized areas, dating back to the 18th century, and was officially reinstated as a DOC in 2011. Its unique soils, ranging from sand to clay and stones, contribute to the complexity of the grapes.

‘Borrigiano’ is a key expression of the estate, often crafted as a modern Tuscan blend, typically centered around Sangiovese and complemented by international varietals such as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. This blending approach seeks to achieve a harmonious balance between the bright acidity and savory structure of Sangiovese and the softer texture and dark fruit notes of the international grapes.

The wine is generally aged in a combination of stainless steel and oak barrels to enhance complexity while maintaining freshness. It is known for its intense ruby color and aromatic profile, which includes notes of ripe cherry, blackcurrant, violets, and subtle spicy undertones. The palate is medium to full-bodied, smooth, and persistent, offering an elegant and approachable reflection of the high-quality, modernized Tuscan style.
