Ratings & Tasting Notes:

97+ points Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

Bottled just two weeks prior to my visit, the 2017 Chateau Grillet was still looking awfully good for having been fined, filtered and stuck into a confined space. It’s a forward, opulent vintage, boasting flamboyant stone-fruit flavors dressed up with hints of jasmine and white pepper. While full-bodied and rich, it never seems heavy or oily, boasting a long, cool, refreshing finish. Wow! (JC) 97+  (12/2019)

96 points Decanter

A complicated year, with a smaller crop than usual (around 3,000 bottles compared to 4,000 in 2018) but careful selection has delivered a silky, velvety texture, still showing its creamy, patisserie, apricot tart feel that is typical in a young Viognier from this estate. You can feel the tension helping the flavours elongate and tighten as it stretches out in the mouth, almost the opposite of the usual effect of a wine softening in the glass. This rises and tightens, with touches of anis and verveine adding interest. Will age well. Biodynamics practiced as at all Artemis properties. New winemaker here since 2019, Jaeok Chu Cramette. 20% new oak. Drinking Window 2020 – 2034 (JA)  (2/2020)
