The finest vintage ever for this cuvee, the utterly spellbinding 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Galitzine Vineyard is 100% Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon that was brought up in new barrels. Slightly deeper and richer than the Columbia Valley Cabernet, its deep ruby/purple color is followed by a smorgasbord of graphite, crushed violets, crushed rocks, cassis and dark chocolate. With incredible richness, ultra-fine tannin, no hard edges and a stacked mid-palate, give this crazy good red 2-3 years of cellaring and enjoy over the following two decades! Bravo to the team at Quilceda! (JD)

Cult Wines International Notes:

The 2014 Quilceda Creek Galitzine Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon represents a historic milestone for both the estate and the Red Mountain AVA, becoming the first wine from this specific appellation to receive a perfect 100-point score from The Wine Advocate. This vintage was shaped by an exceptionally warm growing season that saw early heat and high summer temperatures, which promoted significant vine stress—a factor that winemakers Paul and Alex Golitzin credit for the fruit’s immense concentration and depth. To achieve its final profile of exotic complexity and power, the wine was blended with a small portion of fruit from the Wallula Vineyard (3%) to complement the estate Galitzine fruit (97%), before being aged for 21 months in 100% new French oak.

On the nose, the 2014 Galitzine is “utterly spellbinding” and aromatically explosive, offering a “smorgasbord” of crème de cassis, candied black cherries, and crushed violets, underpinned by savory layers of graphite, Turkish coffee, and Hoisin sauce. The palate is described as massive and “stacked,” delivering an incredible richness and a “3-D” texture that is nearly unrivaled in Washington State. Despite its significant fruit weight and “port-like” intensity, the wine remains remarkably seamless, featuring ultra-fine tannins and a vibrant mineral streak that provides a sense of lift and “inner-mouth perfume.” While it was a “monster” of a wine upon release, it has begun to shed its youthful baby fat and enter a long, luxurious drinking window that is expected to span through 2039.
