Lighter and lifted, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon shows a sweet frame of fruit with elegant French oak and baking spice scents with vanilla, nutmeg and cardamom that sways with an impressive aromatic array of cedar and cigar box, resinous purple flowers, juicy plum and chocolate ganache in the glass. Full-bodied, the wine is balanced and seamless, offering precision and focus across the mid-palate with fine-grained tannins that continue to sway with excellence before delivering a long, drawn-out finish that’s simply stunning. Cult Wines International Notes:
The 2014 Quilceda Creek “Columbia Valley” Cabernet Sauvignon is a monumental release that captures the essence of one of Washington State’s warmest growing seasons on record. Composed of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from the estate’s most prized vineyard sites—including Champoux, Lake Wallula, Palengat, and Wallula—this wine is a study in power and concentration. The extreme heat of 2014 resulted in small, flavor-packed berries that yielded a wine with an almost “ink-like” density. Winemaker Paul Golitzin describes this vintage as having an “extraordinary purity” and a multi-dimensional character that sets it apart from more temperate years.
On the nose, the 2014 is “intoxicating” and lavish, offering a sophisticated array of black cherry, crème de cassis, and blackberry, woven with complex notes of anise, cocoa powder, and singed pencil shavings. The palate is full-bodied and “massively structured,” yet it maintains the signature Quilceda Creek “seamlessness” and a velvety, “3-D” texture. Deep flavors of plum, espresso, and crushed minerals are supported by building, fine-grained tannins that provide a sturdy foundation for long-term aging. After spending 20 months in 100% new French oak, the wine emerged with impeccable balance and a finish that lasts for nearly a minute. Critics unanimously praised this vintage, with The Wine Advocate awarding it a 100-point score, solidifying its status as a collector’s icon that will continue to evolve through 2040 and beyond.
