Ratings & Tasting Notes:
97 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous), November 2020
This review calls it a stunning, incredibly tight wine, describing bright acids and beams of minerality that carry through to an “impossibly long finish,” with notes of lemon confit, marzipan, and dried flowers, noting readers will need patience for it to show at its best.
95 points William Kelley (Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate), August 2019
This review describes a lively bouquet of citrus oil, warm bread, and oyster shell, noting a taut and chiseled palate with “a taut and concentrated core, racy acids and a long, chalky finish.”
95 points Roger Voss (Wine Enthusiast), July 2019 — Cellar Selection
This review highlights the wine’s balance between maturity and freshness, describing “impeccable balance, on the cusp between youth and maturity,” at the point where it has just become truly ready to drink.
94 points Michael Apstein (Decanter), October 2018
This review describes a filigreed mousse and classy Grand Cru Chardonnay aromas of citrus, noting a saline, structured presence on the mid-palate, calling it “definitely a keeper” with another year of bottle age.
Cult Wines International Notes:
Ruinart holds the distinction of being the oldest Champagne house in existence, founded in 1729 and named for the Benedictine monk Dom Thierry Ruinart, whose family passed down his writings on Champagne to the house’s founder. Dom Ruinart, the house’s prestige cuvée, is a Blanc de Blancs made entirely from Grand Cru Chardonnay — 75% from the Côte des Blancs and 25% from the northern slopes of the Montagne de Reims — reflecting Ruinart’s historic specialization in Chardonnay-driven Champagne.
The 2007 vintage stands out as a genuinely unusual year in Champagne’s history: it was one of only a handful of vintages where harvest began as early as August, following a warm, sunny spring that gave way to a cooler, rain-affected summer. Notably, this was also the first vintage crafted entirely under the direction of new Chef de Cave Frédéric Panaïotis, who shifted the blend toward a higher percentage of Côte des Blancs fruit and lowered the dosage — a stylistic turning point for the cuvée. The resulting wine is prized for its dynamic, sculpted structure and pure expression of fine Chardonnay, with critics widely noting its need for patience to reach full expression.
