The modern winery took shape in 1957, when Milanese entrepreneur Walter Ghezzi purchased and restored the property, transforming it from a feudal agricultural holding into a serious Brunello producer. Villa dei Lecci was historically the estate’s Riserva-level bottling, representing Camigliano’s top selection in an era before the estate’s current single-vineyard and cru-designated wines existed. The property remains family-owned today, now managed by Walter’s son Gualtiero Ghezzi alongside the next generation.

The 1988 growing season is widely regarded as one of the finest vintages in Brunello di Montalcino’s modern history, ranked by critics and vintage guides alongside legendary years like 1990, 1985, and 1997.
