Ratings & Tasting Notes:
Wine Enthusiast
Hints of vanilla and white chocolate on the nose; modest toast, herb and citrus flavors. Creamy mouthfeel and a clean, fresh finish. This is solid Champagne at a good price.
Cult Wines International Notes:
This particular bottle is an original vintage bottling. Likely in the late 1990’s but it is not certain.
Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte represents a unique success story as the youngest of the major houses, officially established in 1976. The brand originated from the vision of two men: Henri Macquart, who founded the Centre Vinicole de la Champagne in 1972 to unite local growers, and Nicolas Feuillatte, a businessman who had made his fortune in the international coffee trade. Feuillatte initially created the champagne for his high profile American social circle before merging his brand with the cooperative in 1986. Today, the house operates as a massive collective of 5,000 growers across the region. The Premier Cru Brut is a meticulous expression of this network, sourcing fruit exclusively from Premier Cru vineyards in the Cotes des Blancs, Montagne de Reims, and the Marne Valley.
The growing conditions for this cuvee typically involve a rigorous selection of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Meunier from the five Premier Cru zones. These areas are characterized by a diverse mosaic of soils, predominantly chalk and limestone clay, which provide the essential drainage and mineral tension for high quality fruit. Recent seasons have seen a focus on precision viticulture to manage fluctuating temperatures, ensuring the grapes reach a perfect balance of physiological ripeness and acidity. Following harvest, the wine undergoes a minimum of three years of cellar aging to develop its signature aromatic profile of acacia honey, pear, and citrus. This extended maturation, combined with a precise dosage, results in a vibrant champagne that reflects both the history of collective craftsmanship and the distinct terroir of Champagne’s finest hillsides.
