Cult Wines International Notes:

Domaine de la Vougeraie is a relatively young but prestigious estate, founded in 1999 by the Boisset family to consolidate their most exceptional vineyard holdings into a single, world-class domain. Central to its identity is the Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot, a rare 2.29-hectare Monopole—a vineyard owned entirely by one producer. This site has a sacred history dating back to the 12th century when it was first planted by Cistercian monks. Unlike the surrounding sea of Pinot Noir in the Vougeot appellation, this “golden triangle” has remained dedicated to white grapes for nearly nine centuries. Under the guidance of the estate, the vineyard is farmed using strict biodynamic principles, ensuring that the wine remains a pure, energetic expression of its historic limestone-heavy terroir.

The 2018 growing season in Burgundy was characterized by an exceptionally warm and dry summer, following a very wet winter that fortunately replenished the soil’s water reserves. Spring provided ideal conditions for a successful flowering, leading to a generous fruit set. The heat of July and August accelerated ripening, forcing vignerons to be incredibly precise with their harvest dates to avoid over-ripeness and loss of acidity. At Domaine de la Vougeraie, the biodynamic management helped the vines maintain resilience against the heat. The 2018 harvest resulted in a wine with remarkable solar concentration and a lush, expansive texture, yet it retained the signature mineral nerve and floral elegance that define this historic white monopole.
