100 points Int’l Wine Review

Quilceda Creek’s Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is once again a spectacular release of this legendary Washington wine. Sourced from Champoux and Mach One vineyards, this begins to impress with its extremely attractive aromas of ripe dark cherries, currants and plums, which are accompanied by lovely nuances of violets, baking spices, savory herbs, gravel, and damp earth characteristics all taking shape. The palate is every bit as stunning, boasting a gorgeous full-body that is structured with beautifully polished, fine-grained tannins that are nicely integrated. Displaying wonderful overall balance and concentration along with remarkable purity and craftsmanship, the 2019 has it all. This is one of the finest vintages of the Columbia Valley Cabernet that I have had the chance to taste. Even at this infant stage this is an absolute knockout and it is certainly destined for a brilliant evolution ahead. (JD)

All Cabernet Sauvignon that’s 90% from Champoux and 10% from Mach One (both in Horse Heaven Hills), the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley spent 20-22 months in all new French oak. Gorgeous cassis, flowery incense, lead pencil shavings, camphor, and spicy oak all soar from the glass, and it’s full-bodied, has a deep, layered, incredibly layered mouthfeel, gorgeous tannins, no hard edges, and a great, great finish. It’s another sensationally complex, layered, textured beauty from this team that’s world class in every way. It shows the elegant, seamless style of the vintage and is perfectly balanced.

Flirting with perfection, instantly impressive and marked with impeccable shine and polish, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is made entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon from Champoux vineyard (90%) and Mach One vineyard (10%). The Cabernet explodes out of a glass with exuberance and power, prancing with layers of juicy black fruit, plum compote, black raspberry jus and hints of cinnamon-spiced black cherries. Full-bodied and with a ripe attack, velvety tannins sway with a glossy mouthfeel that is seductive and hedonistic, and the wine displays a balanced structure with a generous frame. It somersaults to an ever-evolving finish that bursts with layers of complexity, finesse and richness. What a stunning bottle! Bravo! Two thumbs up! Only 4,125 cases were made for the world. (AM)
Cult Wines International Notes:
The 2019 Quilceda Creek Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon represents the 41st vintage of a winery founded in 1978 by Alex and Jeannette Golitzin, whose pursuit of world-class Cabernet was mentored by Alex’s uncle, the legendary André Tchelistcheff. This vintage was defined by a unique growing season in Washington: a late bud break and cool spring were followed by a mild, temperate summer without significant heat spikes. These conditions allowed for a “long hang-time” into October, enabling the 100% Cabernet Sauvignon fruit—sourced primarily from the historic Champoux Vineyard and the estate’s Mach One site—to reach full physiological maturity while maintaining a bright, elegant acidity.
The result is a wine that exhibits the “horizontal” and seamless texture characteristic of the 2019 vintage, earning near-perfect scores, including 99 points from both Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate and Jeb Dunnuck. On the nose, it is highly aromatic with notes of crème de violette, black rose petals, and sandalwood, while the palate delivers concentrated layers of blackberry, black truffle, and minerals. Aged for 20 months in 100% new French oak, this wine is a refined testament to the winery’s four-decade history of “no compromises” winemaking, offering a sophisticated structure that is expected to age gracefully through 2045.
