Ratings & Tasting Notes:

Soft, approachable, and heavily fruit-driven, this classic bottling opens with highly welcoming aromas of green plums and ripe orchard pears. The creamy, gently sweet mouthfeel is layered with delicate nuances of vanilla, warm toast, and a touch of savory butterscotch that lingers pleasantly through the finish, presenting a profile where “flavors are fruit driven, green plums and pears dominating”. Light-bodied, nicely balanced, and wonderfully approachable, this expressive Champagne focuses heavily on a soft maturity and gentle lines. Seductive aromas of baked white fruits and sweet peaches give way to a rounded, highly harmonious succession of sensations on the palate, presenting “a balanced blend of three wine varieties, revealing a harmonious succession” of flavor. Cult Wines International Notes:
Moët & Chandon, originally established in Épernay in 1743 by Claude Moët, stands as an absolute, globally dominant titan of the Champagne region, famously boasting a historic pedigree that once catered to European royalty and Napoleon Bonaparte. For decades, their iconic “White Star” cuvée reigned supreme as the single best-selling Champagne in the United States, celebrated for its incredibly accessible, user-friendly charm. Classified technically as an “Extra Dry” style rather than a traditional Brut, White Star featured a slightly more generous, off-dry dosage of approximately 20 grams of sugar per liter. This specific, slightly sweeter profile was purposefully engineered to deliver a softer, rounder, and far less acidic mouthfeel. The historic non-vintage blend was meticulously assembled using over 100 distinct crus, driven predominantly by the structure of Pinot Meunier (45%) and Pinot Noir (35%), and softened with a 10% splash of Chardonnay.
In a major strategic milestone, Moët & Chandon officially discontinued the legendary White Star label globally in 2009, entirely phasing it out to pave the way for their drier, more modern flagship, the Brut Impérial. Because this historic bottling has been out of commercial production for over fifteen years, surviving bottles represent highly prized, increasingly rare historical time capsules for serious collectors and nostalgia enthusiasts alike. Over its extended period of careful cellar maturation, the once-bright straw-yellow liquid has gracefully evolved into a deep, rich amber-gold hue. The energetic, youthful effervescence has naturally quieted into a delicate, creamy mousse, while the primary orchard fruit flavors have transformed into an incredibly complex, late-disgorged profile. Today, it reveals magnificent tertiary dimensions of honeyed baked apples, dried ginger, and warm, yeasty brioche, delivering a unique, wonderfully mature tasting experience.
