Ratings & Tasting Notes:
92 points Jeb Dunnuck
Juicy cassis, graphite, tobacco, and some smoky, chocolaty notes all shine in the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon, a medium to full-bodied, round, plump, nicely balanced 2022 that has solid mid-palate depth and ripe tannins. This seductive, sexy, fruit-loaded 2022 will drink well over the coming decade or more.
Cult Wines International Notes:
Founded in 1997 by Darioush and Shahpar Khaledi, Darioush Winery represents the realization of a personal “American Dream” that bridges the ancient winemaking traditions of Shiraz, Iran, with the modern innovation of Napa Valley. Inspired by the Persian art of hospitality known as taarof, the estate’s iconic Persepolis-inspired architecture on the Silverado Trail serves as a gateway to a portfolio defined by “mountain muscle” and cooling maritime influences. The Signature Series Cabernet Sauvignon is the winery’s flagship expression, born from over two decades of meticulous management across 120 acres of estate vineyards. By sourcing fruit from the rugged, high-elevation slopes of Mount Veeder alongside the temperate benches of Oak Knoll and Coombsville, the winery consistently achieves a “seamless” style characterized by deep concentration and a structural poise that rewards long-term cellaring.
The 2022 vintage in Napa Valley was a season of dramatic contrasts that demanded exceptional precision in the vineyard. Following a relatively serene and temperate spring and summer that allowed for healthy canopy development and early flavor accumulation, the region was struck by a historic Labor Day heatwave. At Darioush, the strategic location of their cooler southern Napa sites and high-elevation Mount Veeder blocks proved vital, as the afternoon marine breezes and mountain air mitigated the most extreme temperatures. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon was aged for 21 months in 75% new French oak, resulting in a pure varietal expression that balances the intensity of the vintage with remarkable freshness. The 2022 Signature Cabernet opens with powerful aromas of ripe blackcurrant, sun-dried fig, and smoked thyme, unfolding into a velvety palate of dark cocoa and graphite, supported by firm yet polished tannins that signal a long life ahead.
