Cult Wines International Notes:
Founded in 1831, Maison Albert Bichot is a revered, family-owned cornerstone of Burgundy, globally celebrated for its masterful equilibrium between ancestral heritage and modern, precision viticulture. Now guided by Albéric Bichot, the house oversees magnificent domain estates alongside historic négociant operations, consistently championing terroir-driven, sustainable winemaking. Their Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru “Les Garennes”—a high-altitude climat defined by its stony, calcareous-clay soils—is a textbook example of this dedication. Meaning “the reserve” in reference to historical medieval hunting grounds, this vineyard naturally yields Chardonnays prized for their chiseled architectural focus, aristocratic precision, and intense, long-lived mineral energy.
The 2022 growing season in Burgundy is widely celebrated as an exceptional, highly successful vintage that triumphantly married generous volume with stunning fruit quality. After a tense, frosty scare in April that required strict vigilance, the season shifted into a warm, sun-drenched, and remarkably dry summer. While hydric stress was a concern, the old vines dug deep into the rocky limestone bedrock to find water. Harvesting began under spotless blue skies in late August, bringing in beautifully ripe, immaculate fruit. The 2022 Albert Bichot “Les Garennes” flawlessly captures the balance of this solar year; it is full-bodied, round, and deeply concentrated with seductive notes of hawthorn, almond, and apricot, yet effortlessly preserved a vibrant, mouthwatering acidity and brisk saline freshness that ensures an elegant, long life in the cellar.
