Tasting Notes:

98 ponts Decanter

This Anjea bottling is from Sleeping Lady Vineyard, planted with Clone 22 of Cabernet and is very floral. Year after year, this wine boasts an exotic nose of candied red berries, dried rose petals, and apricot pit nuanced with brown baking spices. The wine is focused, with super-fine tannins and a wonderfully aromatic finish of dried thyme, sage, and unsmoked tobacco. Wonderfully complex and refined. This is the personal project of winemaker Nigel Kinsman and his wife, Shea. The name is derived from their surnames. Their first vintage was in 2016, and the wines are currently made at Wheeler Farms in St Helena. They are sourced from five single vineyard sites: M-Bar Ranch and Vine Hill Ranch in Oakville, Ecotone, and the former Reverie site on Diamond Mountain, as well as Sleeping Lady Vineyard in Yountville. 98 points Vinous

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Anjea Sleeping Lady Vineyard captures all the potential it showed from barrel. Dark cherry, plum, rose petal, spice and mocha all build in a pliant, wonderfully expressive Cabernet that hits all the right notes. In this vintage, the Anjea is on the brooding side, but it has a good deal of elegance as well. The dark, substantial finish points to a very bright future. (AG)

97 points Jeb Dunnuck

Coming from the Sleeping Lady Vineyard in Yountville, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Anjea is a sensational wine displaying that classic Nigel purity and elegance yet bringing depth, richness, and length galore. Cassis, currants, Griotte cherries, graphite, Mediterranean herbs, and even a hint of iron define the aromatics, and it’s full-bodied and pure, with ultra-fine tannins and a gorgeous finish. This majestic, just about flawless Cabernet Sauvignon deserves 4-6 years of bottle age and will be 30+-year wine. 97+

96 points Wine Spectator

This is sleek in feel, with a pinpoint structure coursing underneath vivid notes of black cherry, black currant and blackberry coulis. Violet, sweet tobacco and savory details peek in on the finish alongside a focusing iron spine, all boding well for the cellar. Best from 2026 through 2040. (JM)

95 points Wine Advocate

Sourced from the Sleeping Lady Vineyard, the nearly 30-year-old vines of Clone 22 that went into the 2021 Anjea have yielded a wine with ample cassis and cherry fruit, plus delicate herbal-floral flourishes. In the mouth, the wine is medium to full-bodied, silky textured and plush, but it remains streamlined in shape, with a long, easy-to-enjoy finish. (JC)

Cult Wines International Notes:

Anjea, a fertility goddess in Australian Aboriginal mythology, represents the connectedness and respect for life and land that underpins traditional Aboriginal life. We see this reverence for nature reflected in the way the Bettinelli family farms Sleeping Lady Vineyard, the source of our cabernet sauvignon, Anjea. | Kinsman Eades
