Cult Wines International Notes:
Il Borro ‘Pian di Nova’ is a key component of the Il Borro estate portfolio, showcasing a modern, “Super Tuscan” inspired style. Produced under the Toscana Rosso IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) designation, this classification allows the Ferragamo-owned estate greater flexibility in blending compared to the stricter DOCG rules, enabling them to create a unique expression of their organically farmed vineyards.
The ‘Pian di Nova’ is primarily a blend of the international Syrah grape and the native Sangiovese, a combination that marries the Old World structure of Tuscany with the rich, spicy power of the Rhône Valley. This fusion results in a wine that is immediately appealing and full-bodied.
This blend typically exhibits a deep ruby color and an intense aromatic profile dominated by dark berries, black pepper, rosemary, and subtle notes of leather. The influence of Syrah provides a fleshy texture and concentrated fruit, while the Sangiovese contributes balancing acidity and savory structure. The wine is generally aged in barriques to soften the tannins and add complexity, leading to a smooth, persistent finish.
‘Pian di Nova’ is designed to be an approachable and versatile wine that expresses the quality of the Il Borro estate in an exciting, contemporary style.
