Tasting Notes:
Textbook’s “Page-Turner” Proprietary Red is a small-production discovery from the heart of Napa Valley’s Oakville District, sourced from a vineyard next to Screaming Eagle. Try this small-production gem while it’s still available.
The Oakville District is the heart of Napa Valley and renown for its very finest Cabernet Sauvignon. And for good reason. Its gravelly soils, warm days and cool nights give this Bordeaux variety everything it needs to reach perfection. The Textbook “Page-Turner” Proprietary Red is a Merlot-based wine much like some of Bordeaux’ top cuvees, with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc blended in. Textbook’s 25+ year experience has shown again and again that a blended wine is almost always a superior wine; witness Grande Marque French Champagne, Vintage Port, First-Growths, Petrus, Penfolds Grange. With this in mind, they created “Page-Turner”, and believe it is so good you simply can’t put it down – just like a great book.
The name “Page-Turner” came from the Pey’s 13 year-old daughter who loves to read. “Page-Turner” is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, each contributing unique elements. Each year the exact percentages will change. The Cabernets in the blend come from the same source as TEXTBOOK “Mise en Place” situated next door to Screaming Eagle on Oakville’s east-side.
What may be even more impressive than the fact this beat so many highly-rated (with 100-pointers) and ultra-premium (many over $500) Oakville Cabs is that it did so in the following (classic – think old school Monte Bello or Corison!)
Style: Bright, light, juicy cherry, not massive, just fantastic. 14.1%. A real stunner.
(It also edged out the 2016 Mise en Place Cabernet from Textbook, which finished in the top 10.)
