A super-complex Champagne with chewy tension. Aromas of coffee bean, lemon peel, burnt sugar, chalky minerality, barley candy and tarte tatin. Fine pinprick bubbles carry flavours of lemon leaf, aspirin and Mirabelle plum, with a touch of grapefruit bitterness holding the tension. Zesty yet integrated chewy acidity, medium-bodied, closing toasted.

Terrific — bright and poised, showing tremendous energy. Citrus peel, white flowers, mint, white pepper and slate race across the palate. Gorgeous tension and backbone, with bright saline notes extending the mid-palate and finish. A fine showing in a vintage that has proven tricky, and one Galloni is intrigued to follow in the coming years.

A beautiful showing marked by finesse and vibrant character, opening with a mesmerising bouquet of lemon curd and green pear intertwined with orange zest, toasted brioche, crushed almond, and hints of ginger and chalky minerality. Impeccably balanced, with a lively mousse and refreshing acidity framing rich citrus, orchard fruit and subtle hazelnut, closing long and elegant with white flowers and flinty undertones.

Bright straw-yellow, expressive and layered on the nose with a tropical profile: cantaloupe, peach, fresh pastry, smoky wet stones and orange blossom. Medium- to full-bodied, rounded and ripe but very well detailed, with a soft, chalky texture. A very successful vintage for the house. Drink over the coming twenty years.

Disgorged January 2023, showing a singular, ethereal profile with aromas of white pepper, iodine, ripe orchard fruits, toast, smoke, herbs and spices. Medium- to full-bodied, layered and structured, enveloping and round with a delicate phenolic mid-palate underlining chalky dry extracts, concluding with a sapid, penetrating finish and gastronomic bitterness. Distinguished from more familiar expressions of the house by its structural delicate austerity and remarkably linear, well-defined style. Drink 2024–2054.

Dom Pérignon takes its name from the Benedictine monk who served as cellarer at the Abbey of Hautvillers from 1668, and who spent the rest of his life pursuing what he called the best wine in the world. The modern cuvée follows one rule above all: it is made only from a single harvest, never blended across years, and only in vintages the house judges worthy. Its guiding idea is assemblage, the art of composing a whole from parts, and that is precisely what this release celebrates. Dom Pérignon paid tribute to Jean-Michel Basquiat by dividing his 1983 painting In Italian across three coffrets and three labels. Set side by side, they recompose the work in its entirety. Apart is a fragment; together, a painting.

Basquiat’s raw, coded visual language — crowns, anatomical diagrams, struck-through words — sits against the house’s minimalist shield, and the crown motif takes the place of the star. The wine inside all three is Dom Pérignon Vintage 2015: 51 percent Pinot Noir and 49 percent Chardonnay, dosage 4.5 grams per litre, disgorged in January 2023. Expect roasted cocoa, lime blossom, jasmine and peony lifted by aniseed and cardamom, with orange, green papaya, peach, nectarine and citrus on a full but linear palate. Chalky dry extract underpins a saline, penetrating finish. Bright, poised and full of energy, with decades ahead of it.

This matters more than it might appear: retailers release these bottles individually with the label selection assigned at random, so a buyer hunting the set is generally advised to purchase six bottles in the hope of drawing all three designs. Complete sets, offered together with their original coffrets in as-new condition, are considerably harder to find than the individual bottles suggest.
