The fingerprints of the 2014 vintage are all over this very elegant and refined young Clos de la Bussière. The wine offers up a superb bouquet of red and black cherries, pomegranate, raw cocoa, a fine base of soil, fresh herb tones and plenty of smokiness in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very pure on the attack, with an impressively sappy core, ripe tannins and impeccable focus and balance on the very long and still fairly youthful finish. This will want a good decade in the cellar to really reach its plateau, but it is going to be a superb vintage of Clos de la Bussière and will be well worth the wait!

Dense dark red, the bouquet has a firmly toasted oak as well as fruit, rather backward at this stage. Good energy on the second half of the palate but slightly lactic oak very slightly dries the finish. Quite lush though, more to come.
Cult Wines International Notes:
Domaine Georges Roumier stands as one of the most revered names in the Côte de Nuits, inextricably linked to the ethereal and perfumed elegance of Chambolle-Musigny. The estate’s history began in 1924 when Georges Roumier married Geneviève Quanquin, whose dowry included several prestigious vineyard parcels in Chambolle-Musigny. Georges, who also served as the maître de chais for Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé, gradually expanded his own holdings, acquiring plots in Bonnes-Mares and Musigny. Since 1982, his grandson Christophe Roumier has guided the domaine with a philosophy centered on “transparent” winemaking, seeking to reveal the distinct character of each terroir rather than imposing a specific house style. Under Christophe’s tenure, the domaine’s wines—particularly the Chambolle-Musigny Village—have achieved cult status for their purity, silkiness, and remarkable ability to balance delicate aromatics with structural depth.
The 2014 vintage in Burgundy is increasingly regarded by connoisseurs as a classic “terroir” year, defined by its transparency and vibrant acidity. The growing season was a rollercoaster, featuring a warm, early spring followed by a cool, damp summer and a localized hailstorm in June that reduced yields in parts of the Côte de Nuits. However, a “miracle” September brought dry, sunny weather and cool nights, which allowed the Pinot Noir to reach optimal phenolic ripeness while preserving a bright, energetic backbone. For the 2014 Clos de la Bussiere, this climate translated into a wine of remarkable focus and tension. It displays the vintage’s signature red fruit purity—wild strawberry and tart cherry—interwoven with earthy notes of iron, forest floor, and black tea. Though initially coiled and structural in its youth, this vintage has evolved beautifully, revealing the savory complexity and mineral depth that only a historic monopole can provide.
