The 2014 Chambolle villages bottling chez Roumier is really lovely, wafting from the glass in a mix of cherries, red plums, cocoa, gamebirds, lovely transparency, a hint of vanillin oak and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and shows off lovely mid-palate depth, with fine-grained tannins and excellent length and grip on the silkily structured finish. Just a superb AC. Cult Wines International Notes:

Domaine Georges Roumier stands as one of the most revered names in the Côte de Nuits, inextricably linked to the ethereal and perfumed elegance of Chambolle-Musigny. The estate’s history began in 1924 when Georges Roumier married Geneviève Quanquin, whose dowry included several prestigious vineyard parcels in Chambolle-Musigny. Georges, who also served as the maître de chais for Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé, gradually expanded his own holdings, acquiring plots in Bonnes-Mares and Musigny. Since 1982, his grandson Christophe Roumier has guided the domaine with a philosophy centered on “transparent” winemaking, seeking to reveal the distinct character of each terroir rather than imposing a specific house style. Under Christophe’s tenure, the domaine’s wines—particularly the Chambolle-Musigny Village—have achieved cult status for their purity, silkiness, and remarkable ability to balance delicate aromatics with structural depth.

The 2014 vintage in Burgundy is celebrated as a “classicist’s year,” characterized by high acidity, bright fruit, and exceptional terroir definition. The growing season was a challenging one, beginning with a warm and dry spring that led to an early budburst, only to be interrupted by a violent hailstorm on June 28th that devastated parts of the Côte de Beaune. Fortunately, Chambolle-Musigny and much of the Côte de Nuits were largely spared the worst of the damage. A cool, damp summer slowed maturation, but a providential “Indian Summer” in September brought northern winds and sunny skies, allowing the Pinot Noir to ripen steadily while maintaining its freshness. For Roumier’s 2014 Chambolle-Musigny, this resulted in a wine of superb transparency and poise. Often described as having a stony, mineral base overlaid with bright cherry and floral notes, the 2014 expression highlights the refinement of the vintage, offering a savory, saline finish that epitomizes the elegance of the village.
