Our Provenance Guarantee
Purchase with confidence. All of our wines are selectively sourced and thoroughly inspected for authenticity and signs of poor storage. Accepted bottles are preserved in our climate-controlled cellar until they reach your doorstep. We have no storefront and no walk-in traffic, so nothing is moved or handled between inspection and shipping.
The bottle you see photographed is the bottle you receive (or fundamentally identical when multiple bottles are listed), and our commitment to you is that it arrives as represented. If it doesn’t, we want to hear from you.
Ratings & Tasting Notes:
94 points — Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
From Kosta Browne’s parcel of about 37 acres, at roughly 1,000 feet, within the 130-acre vineyard. Wild strawberry, black raspberry, spice and floral stem notes, a shade darker than usual. “Elegant, seamless and downright pretty,” it grows on you with time in the glass.
93 points — Vinous
The biggest and richest of the winery’s Sonoma Coast Pinots, with a supple texture and notes of dark cherry, plum, leather and cedar; a touch of whole clusters adds nuance.
92 points — Wine Spectator
Firm and tight, with acidity and tannins giving structure and definition. Raspberry, anise, cedar and red licorice start out restrained and gain depth and persistence on the finish.
Cult Wines International Notes:
Kosta Browne was founded in 1997 by Dan Kosta and Michael Browne, who famously pooled their restaurant tips to buy their first half-ton of Pinot Noir grapes. Within little more than a decade the Sebastopol winery had become one of California’s most sought-after Pinot Noir producers, and its 2009 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir was named Wine Spectator’s Wine of the Year in 2011.
Gap’s Crown Vineyard sits on the southwestern slopes of Sonoma Mountain, cooled by the winds and fog that funnel through the Petaluma Gap. Kosta Browne’s parcel covers about 37 acres at roughly 1,000 feet, and the wine is consistently one of the richest and most structured in its lineup. The 2013 shows wild strawberry, black raspberry, dark cherry, plum and spice with a supple texture and fine structure. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate awarded 94 points, calling it elegant and seamless. A mature example of one of the Sonoma Coast’s benchmark vineyards.
