Our Provenance Guarantee
Purchase with confidence. All of our wines are selectively sourced and thoroughly inspected for authenticity and signs of poor storage. Accepted bottles are preserved in our climate-controlled cellar until they reach your doorstep. We have no storefront and no walk-in traffic, so nothing is moved or handled between inspection and shipping.
The bottle you see photographed is the bottle you receive (or fundamentally identical when multiple bottles are listed), and our commitment to you is that it arrives as represented. If it doesn’t, we want to hear from you.
Ratings & Tasting Notes:
100 points — Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
Parker calls it one of the most profound wines of Christian Moueix’s career, with cedar, forest floor and blackberry, and expects it to drink well for more than 40 years.
100 points — James Suckling
Layered aromas of black truffle, cloves and a hint of citrus, full-bodied yet reserved, with polished tannins. Suckling calls it “A new classic” for Napa and a wine to age for decades.
100 points — Decanter
Violets, lilac, black fruit and a meaty, earthy note lead to a three-dimensional, refined palate. The reviewer notes that only around 3,500 cases were made.
92 points — Wine Spectator
Dense and earthy, with blackberry, currant, anise and sage on cedary tannins and good length. Drink through 2032.
Cult Wines International Notes:
Dominus is the Napa Valley estate of Christian Moueix, whose family ran Château Pétrus in Pomerol for decades. In 1982 he partnered on the historic Napanook vineyard near Yountville, once part of the Inglenook holdings, and later became sole owner. The winery, designed by Herzog & de Meuron and walled in stone-filled gabions, is an architectural landmark, and the wine marries Bordeaux restraint with Napa fruit.
The 2013 marks the 30th vintage of Dominus and comes from an exceptional Napa year. The blend is 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc, and the label carries a portrait of Christian Moueix by the artist William Kentridge. Three critics awarded it a perfect score for its violets, black fruit, cedar and forest floor, polished tannins and decades of potential.
