Our Provenance Guarantee
Purchase with confidence. All of our wines are selectively sourced and thoroughly inspected for authenticity and signs of poor storage. Accepted bottles are preserved in our climate-controlled cellar until they reach your doorstep. We have no storefront and no walk-in traffic, so nothing is moved or handled between inspection and shipping.
The bottle you see photographed is the bottle you receive (or fundamentally identical when multiple bottles are listed), and our commitment to you is that it arrives as represented. If it doesn’t, we want to hear from you.
Ratings & Tasting Notes:
94 points — The Tasting Panel
“Another stunner from the Perrin family”: bright, fresh and elegant, with refined red berry fruit and clean, focused flavors that show real potential.
93 points — Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
Shows a rare level of concentration and depth for the vintage, with blueberry, crushed flowers, pepper and violets on a medium to full-bodied, tannic frame with good length. Parker suggests four to five years of cellaring, then about a decade of drinking.
93 points — Wine Enthusiast
Not the most structured Beaucastel, but full-bodied and creamy-textured, with plum, thyme and leather on the nose and ripe, generous flavors. Drink now through 2025.
92 points — Wine Spectator
Fig and blackberry fruit with singed juniper, tobacco and brick dust, and latent acidity on the finish. Best from 2017 through 2028.
Cult Wines International Notes:
Château de Beaucastel has been owned by the Perrin family since the early 20th century and is now run by its fourth and fifth generations. It was among the first estates in the region to farm organically, grows all thirteen permitted Châteauneuf-du-Pape varieties, and is famous for a far higher share of Mourvèdre than most neighbours, which gives the wine its depth, savoury character and great longevity.
The 2013 blends roughly 30% Grenache and 30% Mourvèdre with Counoise, Syrah, Cinsault and other traditional varieties. A cool, late, low-yielding vintage gave a fresher, more elegant Beaucastel with unusual concentration for the year. Red and blue fruit, fig, plum, violets, herbs, pepper and leather sit on a medium to full-bodied frame with bright acidity and fine tannins.
