Ratings & Tasting Notes:

98 points Decanter

As is often the case, La Tâche seems a perfect nexus of ripeness, accessibility, and power. The surprisingly open aromas of ripe black cherries and mulberry are complemented by hints of violets, liquorice, and sweet Asian spices. The texture is also approachable, with impressive density given depth by firm tannic grip and bright acidity that draw the wine to a lingering finish. La Tâche 2011 is starting to open already and will easily charm for another thirty years. (CC)  (1/2023)

Along with the La Romanée, this possesses the most dazzling nose in the tasting with its superbly spicy and wonderfully floral-suffused aromas of mostly red berries and exotic tea, all of which is trimmed in sandalwood. The suave, rich and caressing medium-weight plus flavors display ample muscle and power along with a firm bead of minerality on the moderately austere and stunningly long finish where the only nit is a trace of warmth. This is knockout good for the vintage and a wine that is very much on the way up. To be sure, the ’11 LT isn’t going to rival the truly great vintages of this storied wine, but it is seriously impressive all the same.  (10/2022)

Fair depth of colour, evolving slowly. A wealth of fruit at first hidden under that drier graphite touch which I often find in La Tâche. But clearly there is so much more beneath. A touch of mocha, chocolate and coffee notes competing, but above all a sublime vigorous red fruit, a few rose petals, an underlying structure which suggests very many years ahead. Much later on the drier aspects become totally submerged in a wealth of sensual fruit. Really a gorgeous wine from this not especially heralded vintage.  (7/2022)

Bright, medium red-ruby. Subdued but very pure and nuanced aromas of tangy red fruits, flowers, Oriental spices, licorice and crushed stone, plus an exhilarating hint of peach. Wonderfully suave on entry, then rich, ripe, dry and sharply delineated, showing outstanding refinement and aristocratic reserve to its spicy red and blue fruit flavors. The rising finish goes on and on, with noble tannins thoroughly buffered by fruit. This wine has the early balance to give great pleasure within the next couple of years–or, better yet, lay it down for a decade. (ST) 96+  (3/2014)

The La Tache 2011, picked on 5 and 6 September at 27.49hl/ha, has a wonderful bouquet that is quintessential La Tache: very complete and harmonious, beautifully delineated, succinct at first then with aeration, blossoming with brambly red berries, apple blossom, minerals and a touch of sous-bois. The palate is medium-bodied with immense purity and delicacy on the entry. This La Tache is extremely focused, velvety smooth in the mouth and although not as complex as the 2010, it has a beguiling femininity that will seduce at ten paces. It is extremely long in the mouth but politely does not outstay its welcome. Divine. (NM)  (2/2014)

95 points Vinous

The 2011 La Tâche Grand Cru is consistent with my previous notes from 2014. It retains a complete and harmonious bouquet with brambly red fruit and crushed stone, plenty of sous-bois character – perhaps more here than in other recent vintages. The palate is medium-bodied, pure and refined. Whilst not as deep or as complex as say, the 2012 or 2014, it feels silky smooth and as if it has put on a little more weight in recent months. One to watch. (NM)  (2/2018)
