Wonderful decadent aromas of musk, orange peel and plum follow through to a full body, with soft tannins and a long and rich finish. Salty and savory. Layers of gorgeous fruit.

Cult Wines International Notes:

Altesino, established in 1970 in the northern hills of Montalcino, has long been recognized as a forward-thinking pioneer and a major force behind the modern renaissance of Brunello. The estate made history in 1975 by introducing the concept of Cru bottling to the region with its iconic “Montosoli” vineyard, and it was among the first to experiment with French oak barriques to soften Sangiovese’s naturally aggressive tannins. Housed in the beautiful 14th-century Palazzo Altesi, the winery maintains a philosophy that beautifully balances deep respect for local Tuscan tradition with a drive for technical innovation. Under the ownership of the Gnudi Angelini family, Altesino has solidified its reputation for producing exceptionally elegant, highly aromatic, and terroir-driven Brunellos that prize finesse and longevity over sheer power.

The 2010 growing season is widely regarded as a legendary, benchmark vintage for Montalcino, characterized by a long, slow ripening cycle that yielded wines of monumental structure and precision. A cool and wet spring delayed bud break and replenished the soil’s water reserves, which proved vital during a warm but remarkably balanced summer. Crucially, the region avoided any prolonged heatwaves, allowing the Sangiovese grapes to develop deep phenolic complexity and intense aromatic precursors while preserving a vibrant, mouthwatering acidity. A textbook September featured warm, sun-drenched days and crisp, cool nights, a diurnal shift that perfectly concentrated the fruit. Harvested under ideal conditions, Altesino’s 2010 Brunello is a masterpiece of balance, marrying a rich core of dark cherry and earth with chiseled, noble tannins that guarantee decades of graceful evolution.
