The fascinatingly copper-colored 2004 Dom Pérignon Rosé has a beautifully delicate bouquet of red fruits, and indicates a great purity and freshness. Kept on the lees for at least nine years to smooth the tannins the 2004 reveals a weightless power on the palate. It has a deep and concentrated, highly elegant Pinot character (though Chardonnay and Pinot are more or less 50/50), and is full of finesse and freshness. The 2004 is intense and vinous, yet pure, precise and extremely fine. Adorable. (SR)

The 2004 Dom Pérignon Rosé has put on remarkable weight over the last year or so. A rich, voluptuous wine, the 2004 Rosé hits the palate with stunning depth and resonance. The flavors are bold, rich and beautifully resonant from start to finish. Raspberry, cranberry, smoke, spice and crushed rocks build to the stunning, powerful finish. Vinous and ample, the 2004 Rosé will drink well for decades. The 2004 just keeps getting better with time in bottle. (AG)

A russet-red hue, thanks to a higher proportion of still Pinot Noir used. The scents and flavours are something special. Exciting freshness, tension and energy – the punch of the Chardonnay is evident, yet very harmonious, building to a terrific finale of mouth-filling Pinot Noir fruits. (ME)

This is a very fine wine with considerable bottle age. From its orange-pink color to its mature toast and almond flavors, this complex wine is much more than the fruit that has merged with the secondary flavors. Light tannins and a crisp texture are balanced by the softness that comes from the relatively high dosage. The wine, beautifully mature, is ready to drink. (RV)

Cult Wines International Notes:

The 2004 Dom Pérignon Rosé represents a “year of renaissance,” emerging as a sophisticated successor to the infamously turbulent and hot 2003 harvest. The history of the house is anchored in the Abbey of Hautvillers, where the 17th-century Benedictine monk Dom Pierre Pérignon pioneered the art of assemblage and established the rigorous quality standards that remain the foundation of the Maison today. As a prestige cuvée that is only produced in exceptional years, the Rosé expression is particularly notable for its dedicated vinification process. Unlike many houses that view Rosé as a variation of their Blanc, Dom Pérignon treats it as a distinct creative challenge, blending a significant proportion of still Pinot Noir—often sourced from the legendary plots of Aÿ and Hautvillers—to achieve a signature tension between structural power and weightless elegance.

The 2004 growing season is remembered in Champagne for its remarkable ease and generosity, characterized by a steady progression that stood in stark contrast to the prior year’s drought. After a cool spring and a relatively mild start to summer, the vines produced an abundant fruit set with large, healthy clusters. While August remained unseasonably cool and gray, a providential “Indian summer” arrived in September, bringing weeks of dry, consistent heat that pushed the grapes to optimal phenolic ripeness. This final burst of sunshine allowed the Pinot Noir to develop an intense aromatic profile and deep concentration while preserving the vibrant acidity essential for long-term aging. Harvesting began on September 24th, yielding a crop that combined record-breaking volume with the “laser-like” precision and crystalline purity that have become the hallmarks of the 2004 vintage.
