Tenuta Trerose is one of the largest and most established estates in Montepulciano, farming 103 hectares dedicated to Vino Nobile di Montepulciano — Italy’s first wine ever granted DOCG status. The estate’s Riserva is built primarily on Sangiovese, known locally as Prugnolo Gentile, matured in Slavonian oak for at least 18 months followed by additional bottle aging before release, in keeping with the appellation’s Riserva requirements of at least three years of total aging.

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano built its modern reputation through the 1980s and early 1990s as one of Tuscany’s classic, food-driven Sangiovese-based reds — traditionally structured, savory, and built for the table rather than the cellar-flex market. At over three decades of age, a well-stored 1992 Riserva should be showing the tertiary character typical of mature Sangiovese: dried cherry and plum, leather, tobacco, and forest floor notes, with tannins that have long since softened and integrated.
