Our Provenance Guarantee

Purchase with confidence. All of our wines are selectively sourced and thoroughly inspected for authenticity and signs of poor storage. Accepted bottles are preserved in our climate-controlled cellar until they reach your doorstep. We have no storefront and no walk-in traffic, so nothing is moved or handled between inspection and shipping.

The bottle you see photographed is the bottle you receive (or fundamentally identical when multiple bottles are listed), and our commitment to you is that it arrives as represented. If it doesn’t, we want to hear from you.

Ratings & Tasting Notes:

2018 No. 12 Cumulus Vineyard: (3) bottles

100 points — Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
Deep ruby-purple, opening slowly to cassis, lilac, coffee bean, dried mint and herbs. Full-bodied, powerful yet elegant, with concentrated fruit, grainy tannins and fresh acidity that carries its floral perfume through a long finish.

100 points — Jeb Dunnuck
Among the very strongest of the estate’s remarkable 2018s. Darker berries, Italian leather, kirsch, sandalwood and dried flowers on a full-bodied palate with ultra-fine tannins and a long finish, combining complexity, purity, power and elegance. To drink over the following 15 to 20 years.

2018 Touriga Nacional Número Cuatro: (1) bottle

99 points — Jeb Dunnuck
Full-bodied and rich yet balanced and elegant, with blue fruits, violets, gravelly earth and peppery spice, building tannins and a long finish. Should keep for 15 years or more.

98 points — Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
Opaque purple-black, with plum preserves, blueberry pie, star anise and kirsch, then tobacco, cedar, lavender, menthol and dusty soil. Full-bodied, with layers of black and red berries, firm, grainy tannins and poised acidity.

98 points — Vinous
A wine of “tremendous character and personality,” deep and powerful, with black cherry, plum, bittersweet chocolate, new leather, licorice and spice.

Cult Wines International Notes:

Sine Qua Non, founded in 1994 by Manfred and Elaine Krankl, is California’s most celebrated cult producer of Rhône-variety wines, and every cuvée receives a new name and Manfred’s original artwork each year. Next of Kyn is the Krankls’ most personal project, made entirely from the Cumulus Vineyard, planted in 2004 and 2008 around their home and winery in Oak View, near Ojai. It is their warmest site, planted to Syrah, Grenache, Petite Sirah, Mourvèdre, Touriga Nacional and more.

This original four-bottle collector case holds (3) bottles of the 2018 No. 12 Cumulus Vineyard and (1) bottle of the 2018 Touriga Nacional Número Cuatro. No. 12 blends Syrah, Grenache, Petite Sirah, Mourvèdre and a little Petit Manseng, with 41% whole clusters and about 32 months in barrel, and earned perfect 100-point scores from both Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate and Jeb Dunnuck. Número Cuatro is 76% Touriga Nacional, of which only 134 cases were made, and Jeb Dunnuck rated it 99 points.
