Our Provenance Guarantee
Purchase with confidence. All of our wines are selectively sourced and thoroughly inspected for authenticity and signs of poor storage. Accepted bottles are preserved in our climate-controlled cellar until they reach your doorstep. We have no storefront and no walk-in traffic, so nothing is moved or handled between inspection and shipping.
The bottle you see photographed is the bottle you receive (or fundamentally identical when multiple bottles are listed), and our commitment to you is that it arrives as represented. If it doesn’t, we want to hear from you.
Ratings & Tasting Notes:
96 points — Decanter
A perfumed, refined nose and an elegant palate that turns pleasingly rustic on the finish. Still evolving, enjoyable now, and suggested for drinking 2024–2044.
94 points — Wine & Spirits
A remarkable 2011, made despite late-harvest rain, with floral, raspberry-scented fruit and a sophisticated structure built to age. “A great bottle for lamb.”
93 points — James Suckling
Tobacco, currant, berry and mineral aromas, a full body, firm tannins and a fresh finish.
91 points — Jeb Dunnuck
A Bordeaux-like Dominus with darker fruit, earthy and cedary notes and resolved tannins. In its prime now and should hold for about another decade.
Cult Wines International Notes:
Dominus is the Napa Valley estate of Christian Moueix, whose family ran Château Pétrus in Pomerol for decades. In 1982 he partnered on the historic Napanook vineyard near Yountville, once part of the Inglenook holdings, and later became sole owner. The winery, designed by Herzog & de Meuron and walled in stone-filled gabions, is an architectural landmark, and the wine marries Bordeaux restraint with Napa fruit.
2011 was one of Napa’s coolest and most challenging recent vintages, with rain at harvest, and it produced a more classically proportioned, Bordeaux-like Dominus. The blend is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc. Fresh almond, wild strawberry and cassis lead to tobacco, cedar and earthy notes over resolved tannins, and the wine is now in an ideal drinking window.
