A harmonious Champagne, with well-knit, mouthwatering acidity, offering hints of bread dough and spun honey that enrich flavors of black cherry, salted almond and preserved lemon. Not a powerhouse, but this shows good focus while remaining fine and creamy in texture. The minerally finish shows hints of smoke and oyster shell. Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. (AN)

Cult Wines International Notes:

This particular bottle is an original vintage bottling. Likely in the late 1990’s but it is not certain.

Founded in 1743 by Claude Moët, the house of Moët & Chandon has evolved from a local wine merchant in Épernay into the global benchmark for luxury Champagne. The winery gained international prestige under Jean-Rémy Moët, the founder’s grandson, who fostered a legendary friendship with Napoléon Bonaparte. This relationship eventually inspired the name of the signature Brut Impérial, which was officially launched in 1869 to honor the emperor. Today, the house manages the largest estate in the region, encompassing over 1150 hectares of vines across the limestone-rich terroirs of the Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne, and Côte des Blancs.

As a non-vintage cuvée, Moët Brut Impérial is crafted from a blend of over 200 crus to ensure a consistent house style despite annual weather variations. The 2023 growing season in Champagne was characterized by a notably humid summer following a relatively mild spring. While the high rainfall levels created challenges with vineyard health and disease pressure, the season ultimately yielded a bountiful harvest with high grape weights. This abundance allowed the winemakers to be highly selective, ensuring only the most vibrant fruit was used to maintain the signature bright fruitiness and elegant maturity of the blend. The inclusion of roughly 30% reserve wines from previous years further stabilized the profile, resulting in a balanced expression of Pinot Noir, Meunier, and Chardonnay that continues the legacy established over 280 years ago.
