Fantastic aromas of fresh coffee, blueberry, blackberry and rosemary. Full-bodied with fine-velvet tannins that go on endlessly. So juicy and plush on the palate with succulent black fruit. Dried and fresh herbs add complexity. Structured, yet elegant with a seamless mouth-feel.

The thrilling, deeply concentrated 2019 Tchelistcheff Mach One Vineyard Clone 412 pays homage to Paul Golitzin’s great-uncle, who was a Napa pioneer, formerly at BV for more than 20 years as head winemaker. This clone 412 Cabernet Sauvignon from the Mach One vineyard shows off crème de violette tones alongside tar, black currant jelly, Asian spices and blueberry compote tones that all collide in the glass. The gorgeous, softtexture really entices as crème de cassis, anise, dark chocolate shavings and coffee grounds come together seamlessly on the palate. With beautiful length, flavor and density that is rarely seen in 2019 Washington red wine, the 2019 Tchelistcheff will cellar well for another 20 years to come. (OB)

Succulent and focused, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Tchelistcheff Clone 412 is delicious and exuberant on the nose with a fruit-forward and dusty nature and a kaleidoscope of expression in the glass. Full-bodied in the mouth, the Clone 412 comes with the same shine and polish as the Clone 685 of the same range, but this wine has a slightly more compact frame and is marginally less hedonistic. Offering a more approachable expression in youth, this Cabernet will be almost ready upon release—it’s already firing on all cylinders. It’s a gorgeous wine that brings me back for a second and third sip, as it seduces me with its elegance and richness. Only 281 cases were made for the world. Bravo! (AM) 96+

Cult Wines International Notes:

The 2019 Quilceda Creek “Tchelistcheff” Cabernet Sauvignon is a masterful tribute to the “Dean of American Winemaking,” André Tchelistcheff, the great-uncle of winemaker Paul Golitzin. This limited-production bottling is a significant departure for the estate, as it represents one of their first single-clone explorations, featuring 100% Clone 412 Cabernet Sauvignon sourced exclusively from the Mach One Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA. This specific site, perched overlooking the Columbia River, benefited from a slightly cooler 2019 vintage that allowed for extended hang time, resulting in a wine of profound concentration and structural elegance.

On the nose, the “Tchelistcheff” is an aromatic powerhouse, offering a “kaleidoscope” of scents ranging from crème de violette and black currant jelly to savory nuances of unsmoked cigars, anise, and Asian spices. The palate is characterized by its remarkable “red velvet cake” texture—a signature of Clone 412—combining a full-bodied, hedonistic weight with a seamless, polished mouthfeel. Layers of dark chocolate shavings, coffee grounds, and blueberry compote are supported by ultra-fine, velvety tannins and a vibrant mineral streak. Aged for 20 months in 100% new French oak, the wine exhibits impeccable balance and a finish that resonates with longevity. Critics have lauded it as a world-class achievement, frequently awarding it scores in the high 90s and noting its potential to cellar gracefully for over 25 years.
