Tasting Notes:
100 points Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
A consistent 100-point wine (only because my point scale stops at that number), the 1945 Mouton-Rothschild is truly one of the immortal wines of the century. This wine is easily identifiable because of its remarkably exotic, over-ripe, sweet nose of black fruits, coffee, tobacco, mocha, and Asian spices. It is an extraordinarily dense, opulent, and rich wine, with layers of creamy fruit, behaveing more like a 1947 Pomerol than a structured, powerful, and tannic 1945. The wine finishes with a 60+ second display of ripe fruit, extract, and sweet tannin. This remarkably youthful wine (only light amber at the edge) is mindboggling. (RP) (1/1998)
Bottle Size:
750 mL
Condition:
Excellent condition for its age. The color/clarity of this wine is incredible. Still full of life. Vivid ruby red. Slightly above mid-shoulder fill. The capsule is in excellent shape. Tight and without corrosion. The second “victory label” is badly torn as shown.
Authenticity:
It is well known that the 1945 Mouton is a highly counterfeited wine. This is because it is one of the greatest wines ever made and commands a lot of money.
We have done our due diligence in examining this wine prior to listing.
– The brandings on the cork “1945” are clearly visible under examination. There are imperfections in the glass and it is difficult to capture on camera. Photos are attached to this listing.
– The glass bottle has bubbles and imperfections in it, exemplary of bottles created in 1945 when glass-making techniques were not as perfect.
– The paper on the label does NOT flouresce, as is typical of any paper made prior to 1957
– Most of all counterfeits of 1945 are the bottles without serial numbers. Where the serial number is, there are the initials “R. C.” for “Reserve Chateau” and this is not one of those bottles.
– Sediment in the bottle is consistent with its age.
– The label is clear and stamped properly with all of the tiny details not found in counterfeits
– Capsule is tight and clearly has never been tampered with.
