Tasting Notes:
94 points James Suckling
A very refined red with crushed berries, cedar and chocolate. Hints of walnuts. Medium to full body. Fine tannins and a well-integrated center palate. So delicious and savory now. 70% merlot and 30% cabernet sauvignon. (10/2019)
94 points Wine Enthusiast
Blending 70% Merlot with 30% Cabernet Sauvignon from low-yielding vines, this opens in a swirl of cola and dark cherry and is highly enjoyable in its youth, with supple tannin and well-integrated oak. The fruit is dotted in clove, tea and a touch of white and black pepper. (VB) (12/2020)
92 points Vinous
The 2017 Firebelle, Larkmead’s Merlot-based wine, is laced with sweet red cherry, spice, mint, cedar, tobacco and orange peel. Medium in body, silky and nicely lifted, the 2017 is decidedly understated for Larkmead. I would prefer to drink it over the next handful of years, give or take, because of its mid-weight structure.
