Purchase with confidence. All of our wines are selectively sourced and thoroughly inspected for authenticity and signs of poor storage. Accepted bottles are preserved in our climate-controlled cellar until they reach your doorstep. We have no storefront and no walk-in traffic, so nothing is moved or handled between inspection and shipping.
The bottle you see photographed is the bottle you receive (or fundamentally identical when multiple bottles are listed), and our commitment to you is that it arrives as represented. If it doesn’t, we want to hear from you.

Green pear, citrus oil, mandarin, fresh pastry, clear honey and oak vanillin open a full-bodied, deeply textural wine — voluminous and powerful, but incisive, with racy structuring acidity and a long, chalky, elegantly honeyed close. Kelley relays co-manager Bertrand de Villaine’s remark that this is close to what an ideal Montrachet might have looked like had they set out to conceive one, and places the 2017 among the finest renditions of this bottling in more than a decade.

Sanderson notes that the Montrachet fruit, normally the last picked at the domaine, came in early in 2017 — 7 September, after the Corton and La Tâche — with no botrytis. He finds pineapple, citronella, lime blossom, apricot and spice carried by ripe, concentrated flavours, a creamy texture and a long finish, calling the wine harmonious and elegant. Tasted non-blind.

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is the most closely watched address in Burgundy, farming its Vosne-Romanée monopoles and a short list of grand crus under long-established organic and biodynamic practice. Its presence in Montrachet is a relatively modern chapter: the holding was assembled in three separate purchases, in 1963, 1965 and 1980, totalling roughly two-thirds of a hectare. Production is correspondingly small — commonly cited at around 3,000 bottles in a full year. Montrachet is the domaine’s white flagship and, for most of its history, the only white it offered commercially, which goes a long way toward explaining why it remains among the most fiercely contested dry white wines in the world.
2017 was a restorative Burgundy vintage after the frost-ravaged 2016, returning a normal-sized crop of clean fruit and wines built on definition and freshness rather than sheer weight. The Montrachet, normally the last parcel picked, came in unusually early that year and arrived free of botrytis. The wine has scale without heaviness: green pear, citrus oil, mandarin and lime blossom over a creamy, concentrated mid-palate, with racy acidity drawing out a long, chalky, faintly honeyed finish. It shows real presence young, but this is a bottle built for the cellar, and the consensus among critics who tasted it on release was to give it a decade or more.

The individual bottle number has been deliberately masked in our photographs. Every DRC bottle carries a unique serial number, and published images of that number are routinely harvested by fraudsters — both to produce convincing counterfeits and to advertise wine which a fraudulent seller doesn’t possess. Masking this number also protects its eventual owner from similar fraud. The number is fully intact on the label and unobscured on the bottle itself. If requested, unmasked photos can be provided to the buyer after purchase and prior to shipping.
