Château de Beaucastel traces its winemaking roots to 1549, when Pierre de Beaucastel first acquired the estate’s vineyards, making it one of the oldest continuously family-run properties in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Today the estate is led by the fourth and fifth generations of the Perrin family. Hommage à Jacques Perrin, named for the visionary who modernized the estate through much of the 20th century, is Beaucastel’s rarest and most celebrated cuvée — a Mourvèdre-dominant blend produced only in the finest vintages, with just 400-425 cases made in a typical year.

The 2014 growing season in Châteauneuf-du-Pape was a genuinely challenging one, marked by significant mildew pressure that forced the Perrin family into intensive vineyard work throughout the year; yields fell roughly 40% due to dropped fruit. Despite the difficulty, the resulting wine has been widely praised as one of the true standouts of the vintage — more forward, precise, and approachable in its youth than Beaucastel’s more powerful, concentrated years, while still showing real depth and structure. It stands as a testament to the estate’s meticulous vineyard management even in a genuinely difficult season.
