Gorgeous wine. Dark ruby-garnet color. Plenty of chocolate, berry and earth aromas. Rich, full-bodied, very velvety, with a long, ripe fruit and chocolate finish.
Cult Wines International Notes:
Château La Fleur, a boutique estate located on the prestigious plateau of Saint-Émilion, is often celebrated for its traditional approach and historic terroir. Situated near the border of Pomerol, the vineyard benefits from a unique soil composition that blends the limestone typical of Saint-Émilion with the gravel and clay characteristics found in its neighboring appellation. Historically, the estate has focused on producing small-batch, artisanal wines that emphasize the elegance and aromatic complexity of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. In the early 1980s, the property maintained a reputation for consistency and classical winemaking, adhering to techniques that allowed the specific microclimate of its parcels to shine through in every bottle. This dedication to site-specific expression made it a favorite among collectors seeking the authentic, refined character of right-bank Bordeaux.
The 1982 growing season is widely regarded as a watershed moment for Bordeaux, characterized by a perfect alignment of climatic conditions. After a successful and uniform flowering in June, the region experienced a hot, dry summer with just enough rainfall to prevent the vines from shutting down. These conditions allowed for a magnificent ripening of the Merlot, resulting in berries with unprecedented sugar levels and ripe, velvety tannins. At Château La Fleur, the harvest took place under ideal conditions in late September, yielding fruit of extraordinary concentration and depth. The 1982 vintage is heralded for its “solar” richness and opulent texture, marking the beginning of a modern era of power and accessibility while retaining the structural balance necessary for decades of graceful evolution.
