Meadows describes an ultra-pure, cool and remarkably elegant mix of spicy red and blue Pinot fruit, redcurrant and wild red berries, openly floral in character. The overtly stony flavours are shaped by firm but extremely fine tannins, and while there is ample power and vibrancy, the palate feel is all silk and satin. He characterises 2010 as a La Tâche vintage of refinement and polish, notes it will still need twenty to twenty-five years of cellaring to reach full maturity, and expects it to be regarded then as one of the all-time great vintages for this wine.

98 points — Jasper Morris (Inside Burgundy, October 2019)
No longer in the first flush of youth, Morris writes, but full of energy. The bouquet signals weight and class while the wine remains too youthful to reveal much detail, though persistence at the glass draws out alpine strawberry with fresh raspberry alongside. Fruit concentration is such that only a few gentle tannins show, and the acidity is entirely folded into the fruit. He calls it a majestic and exceptionally graceful wine, still just beginning its journey.

Sanderson finds a distinctively dark, brooding side to this wine — black cherry, liquorice, sandalwood, tobacco and woodsy spice mingling with dense tannins on a powerful frame, leading to a superb aftertaste of sweet fruit, spice and mineral.

Good bright, full red. High-pitched aromas of raspberry, pomegranate, cranberry, spice, flowers and white pepper. Tanzer finds it wonderfully sappy and fine-grained, with outstanding inner-mouth mineral-driven perfume to taut flavours of pungent red berries, flowers and spices, and is most impressed by the inexorably building finish, with suave tannins and great energy and lift. Built for a very long life in bottle, though already revealing considerable charm.

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti farms its holdings from Vosne-Romanée under long-established biodynamic practice, at yields among the lowest in Burgundy. La Tâche is the larger of the domaine’s two monopoles at just over six hectares. The vineyard in its present form was settled by a 1936 court ruling that folded the neighbouring Les Gaudichots into the La Tâche appellation, giving the domaine sole ownership of the enlarged cru. Where Romanée-Conti is famously reticent in youth, La Tâche is the extrovert of the cellar — darker, more overtly powerful, and for many collectors the more thrilling wine to drink before either reaches full maturity.

2010 is among the great modern vintages for red Burgundy and one of the most classically proportioned. A cold spring and a difficult flowering cut the crop severely, leaving small, thick-skinned berries, and a cool, dry late season preserved acidity and aromatic detail rather than pushing toward ripeness. The resulting wines are precise, tautly structured and built for the long term. This La Tâche reflects the year exactly: ultra-pure and cool-toned, with spicy red and blue fruit, redcurrant and wild berries over a stony core, its firm but exceptionally fine tannins giving a palate feel of silk and satin. 15,763 bottles were produced, as recorded on the label. Critics place it among the great vintages for this wine while consistently noting it is still some way from full maturity.
