Ratings & Tasting Notes:
93 points Wine Spectator and #97 in Top 100 Wines of 2011:
An enticing combination of peach, ripe apple, lime blossom and hazelnut aromas and flavors, this delicate and racy white leaves a mouthwatering impression on the finish, picking up a mineral note on the long aftertaste. Best from 2012 through 2023. 200 cases imported.” (09/11) 93 points and “Outstanding” from Allen Meadows: “A restrained and pure nose features notes of pear, white peach, resin and a noble vegetal note that complements well the rich and palate staining big-bodied flavors that brim with old vine extract before terminating in a seductively textured and hugely long finish. There is so much extract present that this has an opulent feel to it though it remains in perfect balance. A very impressive showing. (01/11)
Cult Wines International Notes:
Domaine Philippe Colin was established in 2004 following the division of the famous Domaine Colin-Deleger estate between Philippe and his brother Bruno. Based in the heart of Chassagne-Montrachet, Philippe maintains a philosophy of minimal intervention and sustainable viticulture, focusing on the distinct expression of individual terroirs. The Les Chenevottes vineyard is situated on the Puligny side of Chassagne, characterized by shallow, stony limestone soils that typically yield wines with remarkable energy and mineral precision. This site sits at a mid-slope elevation where the drainage and sun exposure allow for optimal development of Chardonnay.
The 2008 growing season was a challenging but ultimately rewarding vintage for white Burgundy, often described as a victory snatched from the jaws of defeat. A cool, wet spring led to a difficult flowering period, which naturally reduced yields. The summer remained damp and grey, raising concerns about mildew and rot. However, a dramatic shift occurred in September when a steady, cool north wind arrived along with ample sunshine. This wind dried the vineyards, halted the spread of rot, and concentrated the fruit through evaporation rather than heat. The result was a harvest of grapes with high natural acidity and surprising concentration. The 2008 Philippe Colin Les Chenevottes reflects this tension, offering a streamlined, focused profile with a chiseled mineral backbone and vibrant citrus notes that have allowed the wine to age with exceptional grace.
