A barrel sample, the opaque purple-black colored 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon RBS Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard needs a fair bit of swirling to unlock vibrant notes of dark chocolate-covered cherries, crème de cassis and blueberry preserves, plus suggestions of menthol, fertile loam, licorice and dusty soil. The full-bodied palate is rich and decadent, delivering velvety tannins and soft acidity with loads of spicy sparks coming through on the finish. (LPB) (3/2021)

Schrader’s T6 comes from Beckstoffer’s To Kalon vineyard in Oakville, produced from clone 6 grown on the D2 block. The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon T6 Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard has a deep purple-black color and fantastically fragrant notions of stewed plums, lilacs, chocolate box and Indian spices, over a core of blackcurrant pastilles, unsmoked cigars and menthol. The full-bodied palate has a beautiful structure of very fine-grained tannins and bold freshness, supporting the voluptuous black fruit flavors, finishing long and savory. (LPB) (3/2021)

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Monastery Block To Kalon Vineyard is 100% clone 169 Cabernet Sauvignon coming from the Monastery Block of the Robert Mondavi section of To Kalon vineyard in Oakville. Tasted as a barrel sample, it sports a very deep purple-black color, bursting from the glass with bold notes of crushed blackcurrants, plum preserves and boysenberries with hints of mocha, eucalyptus, Indian spices and garrigue, plus a waft of cinnamon stick. The full-bodied palate reveals wonderfully impactful black and blue fruit layers with a to-die-for backbone of very finely grained tannins and fantastic freshness, finishing with loads of long-lingering minerally nuances. Schrader’s “LPV” comes from Beckstoffer’s Las Piedras vineyard, produced from 337 clone grown on the C block. Deep purple-black colored, this barrel sample of the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard Lpv rolls out of the glass with energetic notes of wild blueberries, black raspberries and chocolate-covered cherries, plus touches of licorice, camphor and crushed rocks. The full-bodied palate is rich, densely laden and framed by firm, grainy tannins with seamless freshness and an earthy finish. (LPB)
2019 Schrader Heritage Clone Cabernet Sauvignon:

Only the second vintage of this new label for Schrader, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Mondavi Heritage Clone To Kalon Vineyard is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon coming from a single block in the southern part of Mondavi’s section of To Kalon vineyard. The “Heritage Clone”, a.k.a. clone 39, is pretty much exclusive to Mondavi To Kalon, with the exception of some cuttings Robert Mondavi may have given out. Deep purple-black in color, it comes bounding out of the glass with exuberant notes of stewed black cherries, blackcurrant cordial and blueberry pie with suggestions of Chinese five spice, molten chocolate, aniseed and fragrant earth. The full-bodied palate is chock-full of rich, opulent black fruit preserves flavors, supported by plush tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and perfumed. (LPB)(3/2021)

Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon (from Beckstoffer’s To Kalon vineyard, produced from clone 4 grown on the C1 block), this barrel sample of the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon CCS Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard casts an opaque purple-black color and fragrant notes of violets, underbrush and Indian spices over a core of blackcurrant pastilles, baked plums and Morello cherries, plus a hint of spearmint. The full-bodied palate is full-on decadent, jam packed with plush textured black fruit preserves and finishing long and harmonious. (LPB)(3/2021)
