Including small amounts of Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Malbec, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon sports a deep purple color as well as classic Cabernet notes of blackcurrants, new leather, tobacco leaf, flowers, and lead pencil. Beautifully done on the palate and made in a seamless, elegant style, it has a kiss of Pauillac in its nicely integrated acidity, ripe, building tannins, a touch of earthiness, and a great finish. It’s not a blockbuster, just seamless and elegant, with a thrilling character. It should keep for 20+ years. (JD)

The 2018 Far Niente is sourced from vineyards in Oakville as well as Rutherford, Calistoga and Saint Helena and is composed of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon with the remaining parts Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Malbec. The wine itself begins with aromas of blackberries, cassis and dark cherries, tilled earth, spices, herbs and fresh cut florals. Palate is medium to full-bodied, refined and seamless, structured with gorgeous velvety tannins that make for a gorgeous mouthfeel. The core of red and dark fruits are framed by an iron mineral edge that persists through the finish. Overall, this is a beautiful bottle of Cabernet that is fantastic to approach now, but should also continue to evolve for quite some time. (JD)
