Cult Wines International Notes:
Louis Roederer’s Blanc de Blancs is a vintage expression of pure Chardonnay, entirely sourced from the prestigious Grand Cru vineyards of the Côte des Blancs, particularly the house’s own plots in Avize. It exemplifies the house’s commitment to vineyard ownership, precision vinification, and biodynamic/sustainable farming practices. Produced only in exceptional years, this cuvée is celebrated for its incredible chalky minerality, tension, and aging potential.
Blend: 100% Chardonnay, making it a true Blanc de Blancs.
Source: Exclusively Grand Cru plots from the Côte des Blancs, centered around the chalky soils of Avize.
Winemaking: A significant portion (often approx. 28%) is vinified in oak casks, and the wine typically undergoes no malolactic fermentation to preserve its characteristic freshness and tension. It is often bottled at a lower pressure, yielding a softer effervescence.
Aging: Matured on the lees for approximately five to six years, followed by a minimum of six months after disgorgement.
Aroma & Taste: Characterized by a bright, luminous color and a fine mousse. The nose is highly complex, offering notes of white flowers (jasmine, honeysuckle), lemon zest, toasted almonds, and a distinct iodine/sea breeze minerality. The palate is precise, linear, and creamy, with flavors of green apple, crisp pear, brioche, and a persistent, chalky finish.
Pairing: An ideal gastronomic wine, perfectly suited for high-end shellfish, refined fish dishes, and delicate appetizers.
